About the author of AutoLooks.net (Everett J.)

June 15th 1998 – My Journey Begins

It was a foggy Monday morning near the end of school and I started that morning off no different than any other.  I was a bit happier as my first year of high school was coming to an end.  But something was different that morning.  That was the morning that my love of cars turned into a 20 year journey to nowhere.
My day started off like any other, up by 6:45am and off to the shower.  After which I usually headed downstairs for breakfast, but first to let the dog out.  As I looked out to see a foggy morning upon me I realized that my morning walk would be a gloomy one.  So for as far as I knew I was off to a regular day at school.  Around 7:45 I packed up my bag and headed out on my usual 2.5km walk to school, (and yes I did travel up hill both ways, as I also traveled downhill both ways as well).  The walk along the pavement edge of Garson Coniston Road was as usual as it could be, but by the time I had made it halfway up the hill I started thinking about a few of my designs I had started working on.
Being in Grade 9 at that time I started thinking about what I wanted to do with my life and at that time I still wanted to be a race car driver, preferably Indy or Formula 1.  So that morning being one the last of mine from grade 9 I really started thinking about what I was going to do with the rest of my life.
A few years previous I had seen a show (Motor Trend T.V.) on how the Dodge Viper and Copperhead concept were created by a sub-contractor designer who only used side views of cars to build his concepts.  This along with my love affair with cars pushed me into the side view design world.  Sure I was only doing side views of cars, but my love for doing them was off to a great start.
I soon moved into teaching myself how to do 3D front end views and by my grade 8 graduation I had moved into actual car design territory.  Over the next year I expanded my love for cars and used my free time at school to help build my talent and push the boundaries of car design.  Back then I utilized anything I thought of to make a car and if you can turn the head of a Viper snake into the famous Viper, then why not a fish, bat or lizard.  These ideas helped me create my ultimate love, my Slicer sports cars.  This had been created back in 1997 during my side view craze, but now I wanted to see if I could do it in 3D.
My first attempt was poor and with this came my first heart brake.  I thought that if I couldn’t make my car in 3D than maybe my talent wasn’t so great.  But hey this was Grade 9 baby and it didn’t keep me down for long.   I pushed through and began working on other designs.  Over the next few months I built a portfolio of designs and ideas and kept them all in an old lego box.  I called it my dreams and idea box and I never thought that that box would help me build my 20 year journey to nowhere.
So to get back to my original story.  I was now thinking about my future and how I wanted to spend the rest of my life.  I thought about how I had to go to Quebec and go enrol myself at the same racing school that Jacques Villeneuve went to.  This made me start to think about the what ifs of the situation.  What if I don’t get picked up? What if I’m not that good? What if they don’t accept me?  Wow now that was a real head turner.  I knew I was a great digital race car driver and I knew I could probably get in, but at that time in my life no one had ever told me what I could do if I didn’t get picked up.  Back then I only thought about Formula 1 and Indy and that was all I was going to do.  But at that moment I realized that maybe I should have a backup plan.
That is the moment when I started thinking about my designs and love affair with everything car related.  I then realized that I was probably more suited to the auto industry than racing, as I had never professionally raced before.  So next I thought about how I could work in the industry.  I wasn’t great at auto mechanics and my schedule at high school was always making it difficult for me to auto mechanics.  So I thought about my designs and how I could turn them into real cars.
Then I thought about my true love, the Slicer.  I loved that design the most and would love more than anything to turn that into an actual car.  So what did I do next, I started to think about company names that could go along with my car.  Every great car has a company name attached to it and I wanted the Slicer to have a name attached to it.  I had worked on a few logos over the past year as well and had already begun using a logo for my design firm EDC (Everett Design Company).  But what I really needed was a name.
Well the Slicer is fast, quick and blend of a 95 Supra, 96 RX7 and a 92 Viper so maybe a blend of names.  No, no that won’t work.  Well what makes a car fast.  The engine, the tires, the body.  Hey the body of a car is very AeroDynamic which helps it cut through the air with great ease.   Hey that’s it, Aero, Aero Cars will be the name.
By this time I was on the trail just behind the church next to the post office in Garson and had no paper close by.  But that didn’t stop me from having a million ideas about how to use this name.  AeroDynamic Motor Vehicles Corporation was created on that day and with it my 20 year journey to nowhere began.

Since that day I have created and built many different automotive projects, but none of them have ever worked out.  Maybe it’s just me or maybe it’s the fact that I have never had any guidance or help.  But one thing is for sure now is the time for this 20 year journey to come to an end.  But before I do that, let’s take a look at all of my past projects and see where I went wrong and maybe you can come to a conclusion that doesn’t see this ending.

More to the book is on the way.....
